Futura Typebook

Graphic & Layout Design
Project Overview
I created this typebook to showcase the versatility of the Futura type family. Through the use of color representation and utilization of its inherent geometric form, Futura is a unique and fun typeface to work with.
The Process
Before beginning work, I did research on the typeface itself and where it came from. After initial research, I sketched out possible spread layouts for the book to most accurately represent the typeface. Color theory follows suit closely after. After applying the layouts, that were created earlier, page embellishments are added, and page numbers / technical tools are used to create the finishing touches. Finally, it's ready for print.
Behind the Scenes
Layout Design

I had a lot of fun working through the design of this type specimen book. I focused a ton on geometric simplicity and tried to stay true to the essence of the font itself. I also set a personal goal to make the book itself, although the contents are a bit more abstract, enjoyable for someone from any age group to look at.

The colors were a mix of the colors of the German flag: red, yellow, and black. I combined the red and yellow to make a nice contemporary look using the orange hue present below. These colors, as well as the introduction of the blue later in the spreads, make for a pleasing color combination.

Throughout the rest of the spreads, I focused on the minimalist nature of the typeface and accentuate certain aspects of it through the use of geometric shapes. I tried to keep things playful and as organic as possible with such a structured typeface to work with.
